The pressure comes from forcing a large amount of air into a relatively small external cavity, such as a pipe or an air storage tank. The density of air in the external cavity increases continuously, resulting in pressure, which is usually called "external compression".

The working principle of screw blower is different from roots blower. The air is also sucked in and then discharged. When aspirating, the cavity between screw and screw is large. With the rotation of screw rotor, the volume of cavity will gradually decrease. When the gas is discharged, the volume of cavity will become very small. In other words, in the process of rotation, it is equivalent to reducing the air pressure of 2m ~ 3 into 1m ~ 3 of gas, and the pressure will increase accordingly. That is to say, the pressure rise does not come from the peripheral pipe network, but from the change of the internal volume of the main engine cavity, which is the so-called internal compression.
The internal compression of screw blower needs much less power than that of Roots blower, and the internal compression process is continuous and gradual, and the flow pulsation is lower than roots blower, so the noise and stability of screw blower are better than roots blower.
